Global vs User Data

How we calculate what data we show you

What's Global Data?

If you see a logo in the corner of an insight, it means we're showing you global instead of user data.

  • Global data takes the average for all users
  • User data considers your behaviors only

Chances are you're more interested in your own stuff, but it takes time for us to collect enough data to show accurate insights. In the meantime, we show global averages.

When Will I See User Data?

The earliest personalized insights tend to trickle in after about 20 hours of screen time. Others can take months.

The criteria for "enough" data depends on the metric. Usually it's a combination of:

Sample size
For example: For 'Zoom' insights, how many Zoom meetings you've attended
Time spent
To know how distraction tools impact you, we need to collect enough time with them enabled & disabled
Days
"Screentime per day vs productivity" only collects one sample per day. You likely won't see personalized insights for at least a few months

What's Projected Data?

Projected data is a combination of global and user data. We use it to determine what distraction tools could be most effective for you.

For example:

  • We have enough user data to realize you could cut down on YouTube
  • You haven't used YouTube tools yet, so we can't predict what works best for you

We'll take your usage data, and global "what works best" data, and provide recommendations accordingly.
